Peru: Mountains, Mysteries & Magic
SOLD OUT, WAITLIST ONLY – Get ready to discover the magic of Peru on an unforgettable journey through ancient civilizations, breathtaking mountain landscapes, and vibrant local culture. From the historic streets of Cusco and the Sacred Valley to the iconic ruins of Machu Picchu, the tranquil waters of Lake Titicaca, and the coastal charm of Lima, this adventure is filled with unforgettable experiences, incredible scenery, and authentic Peruvian hospitality. Whether you choose the classic train journey or the optional Inca or Quarry Trek, every day offers something extraordinary.
This isn’t just a standard tour; we’ve designed a “choose your own adventure” experience to reach the legendary Machu Picchu so you can tailor the journey to your own travel style:
- The Classic Inca Trail: For those wanting the iconic, challenging 4-day hike ascending through the Sun Gate. You’ll be accompanied by a guide, porters and a cook. ($500 per person add-on)
- The Quarry Trail: An incredible off-the-beaten-path guided trekking alternative with horses to carry your gear, spectacular views, and far fewer crowds. ($500 per person add-on)
- The Scenic Train Option: Prefer to skip the hiking? You’ll journey through the breathtaking Sacred Valley on the Voyager train directly to Aguas Calientes.
How the “Choose Your Own Adventure” Works: Wondering how we manage the different paths? Here is the breakdown:
- Days 1 & 2: We all kick off the adventure together, exploring the historic heart of Cusco as one group.
- Days 3 & 4: The hikers will break off to begin their respective treks, while the non-hikers will enjoy specialized excursions and activities throughout the Sacred Valley.
- Day 5: The Quarry Trail hikers will finish their trek and reunite with the non-hikers in Ollantaytambo before heading to Aguas Calientes.
- Day 6: The entire group is officially reunited at Machu Picchu!
- The Rest of the Trip: From Day 7 onward, our full travel family stays together to tackle the luxury train, Lake Titicaca, and Lima!
Included accommodations, daily breakfasts, select lunches and dinners, airport and city transfers, guided sightseeing, entrance fees, scenic rail journeys, and transportation throughout the trip are all taken care of for you. From the moment you arrive until your departure, we’ve handled the planning and logistics so you can simply enjoy the adventure, embrace every unforgettable moment, and make lifelong memories with new friends.
Setting Hiking Expectations: Trekking in the Andes is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it does require physical preparation (but you can opt for the train and skip the hiking altogether!) Both the Inca and Quarry trails involve hiking at high altitudes, navigating uneven terrain, and tackling steep ascents and descents. You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but having a solid baseline of fitness and stamina will make the journey much more enjoyable.
Inca Trail Booking Deadline & Permits: Because government trekking permits are strictly limited, non-refundable, and sell out far in advance, we recommend locking in your decision by September 30, 2026. We will need your full passport details at the time of confirmation to secure your permit.
The Quarry Trail (Flexible Alternative): If Inca Trail permits are sold out or you are not ready to commit by the deadline, the Quarry Trail is an excellent alternative. It does not require a special government permit, offering much greater flexibility.

This morning, discover the rich history and remarkable architecture of Cusco on a guided city tour featuring the region’s most significant Inca and colonial landmarks. Your first stop is the impressive ceremonial fortress of Sacsayhuamán, perched high above the city. Built with enormous precision-cut stone blocks, this extraordinary site is one of the greatest engineering achievements of the Inca civilization. It is believed that more than 10,000 workers spent nearly 50 years constructing this monumental complex, though its exact origins remain a mystery.
Continue to Qenqo, an important ceremonial site known for its underground passages, intricately carved stone channels, and a sacred stone altar believed to have been used for Inca rituals and mummification ceremonies. You’ll also visit Tambomachay, often referred to as the Temple of Water, and nearby Puca Pucará, an ancient military outpost and ceremonial site that once guarded the entrance to Cusco.
Returning to the city, you’ll explore Qoricancha (The Temple of the Sun), considered the most sacred temple of the Inca Empire and once home to more than 1,000 priests and attendants. Later, stroll through Cusco’s vibrant Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, surrounded by beautiful colonial arcades and historic churches. Your tour concludes with a visit to Cusco’s magnificent Cathedral, a stunning example of Spanish colonial Baroque architecture that houses nearly 400 colonial-era paintings, including many masterpieces from the renowned Cusco School of Art.
After a fascinating day exploring the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, you’ll return to your hotel with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.

During this journey, you’ll follow one of three unique experiences based on the travel option you selected before the trip. Choose to hike the legendary Inca Trail, trek the scenic Quarry Trail, or enjoy a more relaxed itinerary by train. No matter which route you choose, all travelers will come together to experience the unforgettable wonder of Machu Picchu.
Train Option
This morning, depart Cusco by private vehicle and journey into the breathtaking Sacred Valley, known to the Incas as Wilcamayo. This lush and fertile valley has sustained the people of the high Andes for centuries, with the Urubamba River winding through fields of corn and ancient agricultural terraces carved into the surrounding mountainsides.
Your first stop is the impressive Pisac Ruins, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. Explore its remarkable stonework, ceremonial structures, and expansive agricultural terraces while learning about the ingenuity and daily life of the Inca civilization.
Next, visit the welcoming Amaru Community, where you’ll experience authentic Andean culture and gain insight into local traditions and everyday life. If your visit coincides with market day, you’ll have the opportunity to browse colorful artisan stalls featuring handwoven textiles, warm alpaca ponchos, and handcrafted jewelry while perhaps even practicing a few words of Quechua, the traditional language of the Andes. Enjoy a home-style lunch prepared by the local community before continuing to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.
Inca Trail Option
Travel by minivan to the 82-kilometer marker, where you’ll meet your trekking guide, cook, and team of porters before beginning your unforgettable journey along the legendary Inca Trail. Your first day features an uphill trek to your campsite at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet), offering a rewarding introduction to one of the world’s most iconic hikes.
Along the way, you’ll pass the fascinating Inca archaeological sites of Ollantaytambo, Huillca Raccay, and Llactapata, while enjoying spectacular views of the snow-capped Veronica Peak and the surrounding Andes. After a day of hiking, settle into camp and enjoy a hearty, freshly prepared meal cooked by your trekking chef as you relax beneath the Andean sky.
Quarry Trail Option
Begin the day with an early morning drive to Choquequilla, a small ceremonial site where the Incas once worshipped the moon. From there, continue to the community near Qory Song’o (Golden Heart) Hill, where you’ll begin your ascent to breathtaking panoramic views of the Soqma, Perolniyoc, Pachar, and Huarocondo Valleys.
Along the way, you’ll have the rare opportunity to visit protected Inca sacred tombs, where portions of the original wood and leather structures remain remarkably preserved—an extraordinary sight that few travelers ever experience. Continue to the scenic Perolniyoc Cascade for a break to enjoy snacks, take photos, and admire the beautiful waterfall before arriving at your campsite at 3,700 meters (12,140 feet) around lunchtime.
In the afternoon, explore the Q’orimarca Archaeological Site, a historic Inca checkpoint that once played an important role in the region’s transportation and defense network.

This trip is rated moderately active. Travelers should be comfortable walking several miles throughout the day, often on uneven surfaces, cobblestones, stairs, and gentle inclines while exploring archaeological sites, historic city centers, and natural attractions. Much of the sightseeing is done on foot, with periods of standing during guided tours.
One of the biggest physical considerations is Peru's high elevation. Destinations such as Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, and Machu Picchu are located at high altitudes, so travelers should expect to walk at a slower pace while their bodies adjust. Staying hydrated, taking breaks, and allowing time to acclimate will help make the experience more enjoyable.
Participants should be able to navigate steps, board trains and boats, and get in and out of vehicles with ease. While no technical hiking is required on the standard train itinerary, a reasonable level of fitness and mobility will help you comfortably enjoy all of the included experiences.
For travelers choosing the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail option: These trekking experiences are significantly more physically demanding than the standard itinerary and are rated strenuous. Both involve multiple days of hiking at high altitude over steep, uneven terrain with long daily distances, significant elevation gain and loss, and variable weather conditions. These options are recommended for travelers who are in good physical condition and have trained for extended hiking. Proper preparation and acclimatization are essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

You can secure your spot on the on the Peru Trip with a 25% deposit, and make interest-free payments at any time of any amount prior to 90 days before departure (July 15, 2027), when final payments are due.
We welcome payments for your trip either via ACH (electronic payments from a USA bank account) or all major Credit Cards.
To help us keep trip costs more affordable for you, surcharges for payments are not included in the trip package price, and you are encouraged to select the payment method that suits your needs. For example, if you receive international travel coverage insurance for purchasing with a specific credit card, then booking with a credit card may be the best option for you.
There is no surcharge for ACH electronic payments, while Credit Cards will add 2.9% to each transaction/automatic payment (3.9% for AMEX). All payments must be made through the WeTravel platform. We do not accept checks or alternative methods of payment.
Securing "cancel for any reason" travel insurance at the time of booking is strongly recommended for protection against unforeseen cancellations or accidents. If paying for your trip with a credit card (see payments payments above), check for coverage benefits that may apply for international travel.
We recommend using VisitorsCoverage (select from many different carriers and plans)
For travelers who reside within the European Union, Switzerland or USA the requirement to purchase travel insurance cannot be compulsory due to local regulations.
However, the purchase of travel insurance is still highly recommended, and travelers from these regions who decline travel insurance when travelling outside of their home region must sign a Travel Insurance Waiver Form at the Group Meeting (on day 1 of trip), recognizing personal responsibility for emergency medical and repatriation costs should they arise.

- Cancellation 119-76 days prior to departure: 50% cancellation fee plus the non-refundable items listed below.

NON-REFUNDABLE COMPONENTS SPECIFIC TO PERU
This trip includes a non-refundable portion to secure confirmed entry into Machu Picchu, as well as airfare and trekking permits. In the event of a cancellation, the non-refundable amount per traveler is $500.
Both the Inca Trail and the Quarry Trail are optional add-ons with a $500 surcharge.
- Inca Trail Booking Deadline & Permits: Because government trekking permits are strictly limited, non-refundable, and sell out far in advance, we recommend locking in your decision by September 30, 2026. We will need your full passport details at the time of confirmation to secure your permit.
- The Quarry Trail (Flexible Alternative):If Inca Trail permits are sold out or you are not ready to commit by the deadline, the Quarry Trail is an excellent alternative. It does not require a special government permit, offering much greater flexibility.
- Single Tent Availability (Inca Trail):Per official Inca Trail regulations, there is a cap on the number of single tents permitted per group:
- 1 to 8 hikers: Maximum of 2 single tents
- 9 to 20 hikers: Maximum of 4 single tents
